Hey guys! Thought I'd take a little breather from my mad few weeks to do you a new blog - seeing as though SO MUCH has happened recently!
Well, where do I start?!
I hope you're all enjoying The Night EP, it felt like myself and Jodie had to wait an age for you all to hear it - but we reckon it was totally worth the wait. It sounds so good in this glorious weather (I better not jinx it saying that!) gets you right in the mood for a crackin' night out or the perfect soundtrack to a BBQ. Either way, it was brilliant to try something a bit different and the response has been incredible.
I've seen footage of people dancing to it in a Rio club and it moving up the pop and dance charts across Europe, Brazil and beyond. Crazy! I enjoyed every aspect of the project, from the artwork to the sound and I hope to work with Jodie again in the future.
I'm so hyped for the Olympics, I've been lucky enough to have been invited to take part in a few things in the build up and today I will be carrying the actual Olympic Torch! What an absolute honour, it'll be as close as I get to being a member of TeamGB and to take it through Birkenhead Park and accompany the torch on a 'ferry across the Mersey' to join the festivities in Liverpool is going to be such a highlight for me in this exciting year.
I guess 'Burn' would be an appropriate song to whistle as I jog (he he!)
A few weeks ago I was extremely proud to be part of the 'Our Greatest Team Rises' spectacular at The Royal Albert Hall. One of my absolute favourite places to perform, it was great to sing with Alfie Boe again and give our team a fabulous night off from all their hard training. It was such a proud moment to lead the whole place into such a rousing rendition of 'Land of Hope and Glory'. A moment I will never forget.
And that hasn't been all my Olympic events, I even ran through the stadium as part of the Olympic Park Run. Goosebumps aplenty, it was awesome to fly down that back straight - I'll be honest, in my head, I totally pictured that as my gold medal moment!!
So as you've probably heard my role as part of the ITV1 'Superstar' show has been extended somewhat to the part of Mary Magdalene in the touring arena production! Excited much?! It's going to be a whole new level of musical theatre and with the first London date selling out in 24 hours; it seems everyone else is looking forward to it too!
First things first though, we need to find a leading man. I've been working really hard with Jason Donovan, who is an absolute gent, to get the audition numbers down to a final 10 who will feature in the July 'Superstar' series. We've seen some incredible talent and there are some real stars to look out for.
Right, that's all from me for the moment, must dash - got a torch to carry! Oh before I forget, we'll be rehearsing in the next couple of weeks for our string of summer festivals. Hope to see some of you there, fingers crossed - in the sunshine!
Lots of love, M x
You can watch Melanie carry the Olympic Torch via the BBC live streaming site, at approx 18.15 GMT today (Friday 1st June) at: www.bbc.co.uk/torchrelay
