13 January 2015Happy New Year! (is it too late to say that now!?)
Well, what I anticipated to be a 'quiet' year, turned out to be quite the opposite with some very memorable moments.
We started the year with my big birthday party and what a night it was. Everyone made it so special, from my guests on stage and all you lot in the audience - and of course that fabulous cake. Thank you so much to everyone that came along, I can't quite believe it was a year ago already! Don't forget if you missed the webcast as part of the 'Northern Star' Anniversary (15 blummin years!!) you can relive it all over again on my YouTube channel.
It wasn't just my favourite venue I got to sing in last year, I got to do festival season with Jools Holland and his band performing on those warm summer nights against some wonderful backdrops, and not forgetting a little jaunt over to New Zealand to sing a few numbers in a vineyard. Funny where life takes you isn't it!?
I managed to squeeze in some studio time earlier in the year with Peter Aristone on his track 'Cool As You', we also got to perform it a few times as part of the European promotion which I always love. Another duet to add to my back catalogue!
That was followed by a very humbling visit to Ghana to see all the great work P&G and Asda were doing as part of their Clean Water Campaign. It was a privilege to be asked to go out and meet those helping out and the difference being made by clean water. Something we all take for granted.
A couple of TV appearances with Jools Holland to promote his Sirens of Song album was a lovely way to round off the year. It's always such fun performing 'I Wish' with him and his brilliant band.
And so to 2015, probably just as unpredictable, but one thing is for certain - lots of album 7 writing planned. I already started late last year and went over to LA for a few early ideas, but there's still many more sessions scheduled. It'll be worth the wait!
But the big news is that I am spending my birthday this year in beautiful Singapore and Malaysia. I am thrilled to have been asked to be a part of the judging panel for what promises to be the mother of all talent shows; Asia's Got Talent. Not only will I get to enjoy the performances of applicants from 13 countries (hopefully there will be some opportunities for a bit of chair-dancing!) but I also get to travel to an amazing part of the world that I rarely have the chance to visit. How exciting is that?!! It's going to be broadcast in more countries than I can remember so hopefully lots of you will be able to watch. And there was me thinking that this year's birthday would be dull compared to last year!
Lots of love, Melanie xxx
