What we will need for anything we try besides social media shoutouts; (which wouldn't have much impact anyway, cause there aren't that many of us :( )

People who are good at finding contact information for;
* Radio stations
* Gossip shows
* News networks/shows
* Leading webpages on music/celebrities

Also, we'll obviously need people who are good at writing letters/making phonecalls to those.
Possibly the same people as the previously mentioned catogory, preferably in several different countries/languages. So if you reply, be sure to mention any (extra) languages you are proficient enough in to write at least a semi-decent press release in.

and please DO reply if you have any intention at all of helping. It will be no problem if you have to back out later after all, better to have tried and failed than not to have tried at all, right? Come on and do it!

Now we can start te brainstorm on how to get these shows/networks/sites interested in the first place, and how to keep it on peoples minds.
The crazier the better. Guerilla stuff, giant stuff, whatever. If it's not a good idea, we could at least have a good laugh at it :p

Ok, topic opener starts!

I've been saving this one for a worthy cause;

Breaking a world record! That's sure to get attention when you mention it to the media. Especially if it's a wacky, giant thing.

I was thinking giant paper shopping bag, with a huge image of whichever single we're promoting on it.

Should be doable, the currently largest paper shopping bag is big, but not unbeatable...

I was thinking to use overlapping papers, propper sized or tabloids, I don't care, and wallpaper glue to construct it, since we're trying to get on the news that'd be kinda apropriate.

(edit; and also; it's affordable stuff, that way we only need to break the bank on travel and a big print of the single)

It's a bit of a hate it or love it idea... But then again, so was Wannabe!

We could also go for the largest price tag in the manner described above...
And use a network cable as a string to attach it to a large poster of the singles artwork... And have it read the download price, if possible even a reduced rate when you mention the record attempt...

It'd slice the income per unit, but it'd draw a lot of people who wouldn't normaly have downloaded it;

INSTANT CHART POSITIONING!

People are silly for bargains :-P even if they wouldn't normally have bought the product :-O So there would probably not even be a net income loss...

*dissapointed at the lack of replies*

I wonder if no one is replying because;

A: They don't believe it'll ever work anyway.

B: It seems to be too big an effort.

C: They think I am completely insane.

My answer to those options would be;

A: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=519yuRHApfY

B: Hey, come on and do it, you may back out at any point if you wish!

C: You are totally right, but hey, crazy is cool, normal is lame!

Come one people, Mel's worth it to at least try something!

Hi,

Well i do not reply because my english are not strong enough for people take me seriously.

I actually organize the Melanie C Fan Bus Uk Tour 2012 which is like a second job at the moment, for booking everything, make sure that people paid and stay in contact with everyone. I'm doing this more for the fan's than Melanie herself. It not help Melanie promotion at all, but i'm trying to be creatif and do something.

Thanks for the reply :mrgreen:

The world doesn't end with English speaking countries, does it? Judging by your posts/profile you speak a few languages I barely know the basics of (Polish/French?) the countries where those languages are spoken have tv/radio stations too, which, in turn, have listeners/viewers who can purchase singles/albums ;-) More languages = bigger audience.

As for myself, I am fluent in Dutch and almost fluent in English.

I'd be crazy enough to break world records/build giant stuff, call/mail/write any type of media and google for adresses of networks etc. (that last bit I could potentially do in French, German and Spanish too... but am nowhere near good enough to even write a short, informal note in those languages, let alone write a propper letter.)

Feel free to toss in any ideas you may have, no strings attatched, or to jump in after the gigs!

I would love to help promote in any way I can. My only downfall is that I'm not creative enough with ideas. But once given them, I can build and run with it.

It totally sucks living in America and being such a true blue fan. I would do anything for the remote possibility of her making an appearance in the States. But for now, I'm toying with the idea of crossing the Atlantic yet again. I can't bare to miss another gig. Youtube is killing me softly.

I'm still waiting for 'Think About It' to hit the stations here in the US. LOL
It deserves way more attention than it ever got.

Melanie is like our hidden gem and I think it's time for the rest of the world to acknowledge.

Awesome! You'll be a great asset to the team then, since I am good at creative ideas, if I may say so myself... But I suck on followtrough.

Bonus if we manage to kick this off right; More sales is more fans who'll buy more concert tickets makes for a bigger chance she'll tour further away from home :-D

I'm in!! I can speak Spanish; thing it's im from Latinamerica, place where she've never reach.

I've tried since always to call all radio stations I could, asking for Melanie's songs.
At my last try I called the radio asking for 'Melanie C's Think About It', but they played Rock Me (Unbelievable, Rock Me were radio released here, I'm still in :shock: btw) But it seems that Think About It weren't released here (And I wanted people to listen to it too, cos I consider it's better than Rock Me).
I've asked lot's of times here if I can give the radio a copy of The Sea or Think About It to promote it; I'm not sure if I can do that, if it's legal for me to do it or if I'm harming Melanie someway. I know that the story of Roxette's success were something like that, a guy brought a cd to the local radio station and it was spread and became famous...

Dunno what else to do here in my position, cos she's not well known in my country

I think it would be fine, but it would be most ideal if we could somehow get someone who is able to represent Melanie watching this topic.

That way we could get a go/no go for all or ideas. I don't wanna do the pubicity thing if she hasn't aproved it either, but I figured we needed to build an idea before asking.

Once we get a good topic with some ideas going, we should set a timeframe in which we'll all tweet her to ask if she can send someone over here, that way she'd be sure to notice without being spammed by one single fan (She might think that person is just crazy (which would be right in my case XD but not very helpfull).

I have done this crowd-scourced promotional thing before and it was awesome and pretty effective. But in those cases we did have a representative of the show or the artist we were promoting working with us to aprove the ideas. It's just a good idea to keep things from going rogue with enthousiasm and staying sure that you are doing the right thing for the person you are trying to help promote.

I really hope this works out!

And the slogan of this campaign would be;

"Taking The Sea to even greater hights"

It's so crazy it might actually work :lol: ...

Huge "Taking The Sea to even greater hights" posters appearing on tall buildings and other landmarks... Could get some nice news coverage but how the **** do we get em up there :lol:

We're not that many yet, but I say we do a little test run, flex our promotionmuscles a bit and see how the responses are.

I have something in mind for which we won't need any permission whatsoever; We could contact a couple of radio stations/music television channels to see if they are willing to play more Melanie. This is something any fan could do, and I'm sure it happens already :-D but let's do a trial on the responses and report back here, is that a good idea?

They can't play any less of her it seems, so even if we get just 1 songs worth of airplay it would be better than nothing at all, wouldn't it?

Shoot for the stars and who knows where it'll end up.

Yes, let's do it but without spamming her twitter like crazy!! (I said this cos I know people that, when it's their birthday, they make a HUGE campaing to get a birthday wish or a RT that get's really annoying and so embarrasing)

That ios very emberassing indeed, that is why we need several people to send one or two tweets, as opposed to one or two people sending dozens of tweets!

But since this is something we do mainly for her, it should be less emberassing, we're not asking for something for ourselves or a friend.

Only thing we get out of it is potentially more gigs and songs, since more airtime/more fans is all the more cause to spread more of her greatness!

And we need to make it airtime for Melanie, not airtime for an ex-spice/celeb! She's not that, she's so much more!
